Early Autumn update

Additional Note, September 2008.
Although the words contained in my Bio section still hold true to my reasons for expressing them only a few months ago, in the interim I have become increasingly aware of some particularities of interaction and appropriation that I - and the viewers I refer to above - are responsible for whilst βinβ our surroundings. Although very familiar with the concept from a creative point of view, I had yet to recognise the signifiers of it in my own work. Perhaps my paintings may have seemed to already contain that reference, but I would suggest that should they do so, it is on an intimate scale only, one of personal connection with subjects and my desire to render them compositionally for a viewer.
I am currently carrying out work on a small number of pictures that act almost as an accompaniment to my naturally based pieces, and they concern the actual presence of individuals. They are concerned with how one may appear, act, or function, whilst acknowledging that thoughts, motivations, and human nature can affect or adjust the impressions one gives of oneself in the company of other people, and in the company of the outside world. These pictures are - if anything - attempts to render the human presence itself in a similar way to how I have previously tried to apprehend the impressions of a landscape. They are not specifically representational, though I am treating them as portraits, or sketches of frames of mind.
I hope that these practices will strengthen my subjects in future, acting as a personal touch - an additional thread - to the broader fabric of impact I wish to present. Examples now appear in the 'Paintings II' section of the works gallery.
Regards, Al.
